Meet The Soldier
VR DocumentaryMeet the Soldier is a ground breaking 3D / virtual reality documentary about two warriors from conflicting tribes in Karamoja, Uganda. Lomoromoe from the Tapac tribe, and Ariko from the Matheniko tribe are brought together in virtual reality, to safely meet their enemy and discuss the violent conflict in hope of creating more empathy and understanding for one another.
This project was realized with support of aid organization ‘Mensen met een Missie’ and initiated by tech-innovator Hack The Planet. Together with a Dutch and a local crew, director Teddy Cherim and Jort Wildschut visited Uganda for two weeks, to document the conflict and the rival warriors.
Meet the Soldier was selected for Movies That Matter Film Festival, Go Short Film Festival, Courant 3D, Aesthetica Short Film Festival and has been selected for the Golden Calf Competition of the 38th edition of the Dutch Film Festival (NFF) in the category ‘Best Interactive’. In 2018 it was awarded a Golden SpinAward in the category AR/VR.
“My entire life I have held a fascination for incomprehension and the consequences thereof. It is unnecessarily heartbreaking and frustrating. Incomprehension leads to hate, polarisation, racism and even to war and genocide. Why don’t we try harder to understand each other?”
